Q: How much does it cost to become a DR and have the right to sell KI products within a defined territory, to specified markets and targeted accounts?

A: The DR pays only the $75 per month laptop lease payment that will be billed to the DR on a quarterly basis.

Q: Will KI restrict or limit what a DR can earn?

A: No. KI does not limit or restrict a DR's earnings when their profit is based on a standard discount. If an additional discount is provided to the DR, the DR's earnings are negotiated with KI on an order-by-order basis.

Q: Can a DR carry other furniture lines that don't compete directly with KI (i.e. wood case goods)?

A: Yes. As long as the DR is committed to selling KI products as the lead and primary furniture line, KI encourages the DR to carry other furniture products to complete their product offering. As a rule of thumb, 70% of yearly sales for the DR should be KI products.

Q: How does KI's Market Development department benefit DRs?

A: Under the direction of the KI District Manager, DRs are provided with leads and other services at no charge.

Q: Within the defined territory and specified markets of the DR, can Reps or KI sell products directly or through other dealers?

A: The DR has a nonexclusive right to solicit orders within the defined territory and specified markets. If another dealer presents an opportunity to a Rep or KI that is not being pursued by the DR, the Rep or KI can, at their discretion, provide pricing and accept an order from that dealer without compensation to the DR.

Q: When KI bills DR customers directly, when does the DR get paid the markup on the KI products ordered?

A: KI pays the DR markup on the order the first Friday after the customer pays the KI invoice.

Q: How do I handle situations where the customer is ordering both KI and non-KI products and wants to issue one Purchase Order?

A: If KI bills the customer directly, KI will bill for all non-KI products when at least 75% of the purchase order is for KI products. KI handles only the billing of the non-KI products; the DR is responsible for ordering all non-KI products. KI will pay the DR when the customer pays the invoice in full.

Q: On bill direct orders, does the DR need to wait until the KI invoice is paid by the customer before receiving any dollars billed for services (i.e. installation) or non-KI products?

A: The DR must invoice KI for the cost of services (i.e. installation charges) and/or the cost of non-KI products and submit proof of service completion and/or product shipment to KI. KI then pays the DR for the amount billed to the customer for the services (i.e. installation) provided and/or the billed price of the non-KI products less a 10% handling fee after the customer pays the KI invoice in full.

Q: If I already own my own laptop or desktop computer, must I lease a laptop from KI?

A: Yes. When the entire field sales team (including the DR) uses the same equipment, KI is better able to support and service that equipment. KI also ensures that all the necessary sales automation software works correctly.

Q: For the monthly laptop lease payments, do I send KI a check each month?

A: KI will invoice the DR on a quarterly basis (January, April, July, October) for the laptop lease.

Q: Can any software on the DR's laptop also be loaded onto another laptop or desktop owned by the DR?

A: No. It is illegal and a violation of the software licensing agreements for KI to make available to a third party any software licensed to KI for installation on hardware not owned by or leased to KI.

Q: Will KI do CAD drawings and space planning for the DR?

A: Yes. The DR provides KI Corporate the required information by completing a drawing request form. The DR also provides any other required information to their assigned project coordinator. There is no charge for this service. In addition, KI will provide our in-house Encompass™ software at no charge to all DRs that own AutoCAD.

Q: Does the DR pay for KI literature or samples?

A: No. KI provides all literature (in reasonable quantities) to the DR at no cost. In addition, each KI district manager has product samples available for use by the Dealer Reps and Reps. If a sample does not exist or a specific sample is required, the DR may purchase any needed samples from KI at a special negotiated sample discount.

Q: Are there any income tax advantages of becoming a DR?

A: The income tax rates applicable to DRs may provide benefits to an individual depending of their personal circumstances. You should discuss with your accountant how the rates would impact or apply to you.

Q: How do I apply for a DR position?

A: Any entrepreneurial individual or existing nonaligned dealer interested in becoming a DR should contact Pat Kawula (DR Program Manager) at KI Corporate by calling him at 920-468-2550 or complete the inquiry form provided on this website.

All inquiries will be kept confidential

Q: Does a DR have access to health insurance coverage, 401K plan and/or other employee benefits offered by KI?

A: No. The DR is not a KI employee; they are independent contractors. Any insurance coverage and/or pension plan participation are the responsibility of the DR. Many new DRs have acquired affordable health insurance on their own or through their local chamber of commerce.
